Indiana Horse Rescue Southwest

We need to work on getting hay stored for winter.  IHR Southwest is fortunate to have a barn that is able to hold the hay we should need.  Being new to the area last year with the drought was terrible.  Now we are making connections and meeting wonderful people who want to work with us to create a working relationship.  A local hay supplier is willing to start bringing in large round bales for $25.00 each delivered - that is an awesome price!  And good hay!

Round Bales
We are needing to raise approximately $28,500.00 to get the horses through their winter round bale needs - that does not include square bales for horses in the barn.  We have 10 pastures which will each require approximately 3 round bales per week total of 1140 round bales, if the weather is good they will not require as much, but we want to be prepared for any emergencies.

Square Bales
We are currently using 10 square bales of hay per day - that is 70 bales per week - at $3.00 per bale = $350.00 per week  Using that estimate, and not having additional horses indoors to feed we are looking at needing
$13,300.00 to feed the indoor horses until spring grass is up and ready to cut or put horses out.  2660 square bales are needed!.

Grain
Currently using 4 bags of grain per day (160 pounds per day) - 7 days per week is 28 bags per week at $419.72 per week.  Grain for the winter is estimated at $15,949.36 - That is 896 bags or over 22 tons of feed!

IHR Southwest - Estimated feed cost for winter 2008-2009   $57,749.36

  • This estimate does not include:

  •  dewormer

  •  vaccines

  •  medical supplies

  •  veterinary expenses

  •  electric, etc.

Can you help?  The horses need you!

Does your company do any matching donations?  Can you send out an e-mail to your friends?  Daily I hear reports of more and more rescues closing, not just large animal, but small animal rescues also.  We need your continued support to care for the horses that need us, need you.

I looked at all the animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of humans.
I saw in their eyes love, hope, fear, dread, sadness and I was angry.
“God,” I said, “this is terrible!
Why don’t you do something?”
God was silent and then he said,
“I have done something, I created YOU!”

We need YOU, now more than ever.
