I know many
of you watching the website don't know how much work has been put in to
Tyra, so I thought I would add some more information. This mare
would not even take a treat or feed from your hand. She was so
afraid of all humans. Chelsea has been working with her every day
and after months it has finally paid off. This week (3/1/10) she
was let loose outside in the pasture with other horses for the very
first time. It was pretty scary for Chelsea knowing she may be
hard to catch. But all her hard work paid off and it was only a
matter of minutes and Tyra came right to her. Thank you Chelsea
for your dedication and hard work on Tyra and ALL the rescue horses.
I saw Tyra
outside the office! What a surprise! She is now trusting
more and more! Chelsea has been working very hard to help this
girl trust. She is now leading down the aisle of the barn.
She is so afraid but is showing such a willingness to try. We are
so proud of not just Tyra, but Chelsea for the time she is patiently
spending with Tyra! Thank you Chelsea!
We have finally had a
breakthrough with Tyra! She now has a halter on and trusts volunteers
enough to let them come into her stall and scratch her rear! She will
let you scratch her stomach, rear, and chest but gets scared when you
mess around any where near her face. We are taking it slow but we are
happy to see some progress being made! One volunteer has been teaching
her to lead. She is doing good but has a long way to go! Watch for more
updates as she continues to learn!
Tyra
Tyra is a
Quarter Horse mare who is currently in foal. We aren’t exactly sure when
she is due but she should be ready soon as she has had milk for about 5
weeks. Tyra has been very difficult to get close to. Volunteers have
spent hours trying to earn her trust and we’re not quite there yet. She
has allowed one volunteer to rub shoulder but if you move fast she moves
back into the corner of her stall. She’s a sweet horse and with time we
are hoping to earn her trust and then be able to work with this
beautiful mare. |
